Stroke in eye specifically excluded from policy

Gordon said his bank had wrongly declined his insurance claim for critical care benefit after a stroke in his left eye rendered him without sight in that eye.

A stroke was one of the conditions entitling him to critical care benefit, although the policy specifically excluded cover for strokes limited to the eye.

Our investigation

We considered the bank had not misled Gordon about the extent of cover under the policy. Gordon had simply entered into an insurance contract where limits of cover and exclusions applied.

Outcome

Gordon was not happy with our finding, but decided not to pursue the matter further.
